COUNSELOR FAQs

  • What does the application process entail?

    • Counselors who have never counseled at summer camp will fill out an application through CampDoc, have one professional and one clergy recommendation, and interview with the Director and Staff Directors. As a note, if you have counseled at a Fanari weekend camp but not during the summer, this is the category you fall under and these are the expectations for your application.

    • Counselors who have counseled during summer camp will also fill out an application through CampDoc and have one professional and one clergy recommendation, but do not need to be interviewed again.

  • When are applications due?

    • All applications (CampDoc and recommendations) are due by April 25th.

  • How old do I have to be to counsel Fanari?

    • All counselors must be at least 18 years old and be roughly one year past their date of high school graduation (ex. after freshman year of college).

  • What are the responsibilities of a Fanari counselor?

    • Groups of 2-4 counselors are assigned to a cabin according to age and gender. Counselors serve as mentors to these youths and are responsible for their campers’ psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing throughout the entire week at camp. Fanari Camp is a Christ-centered ministry, and counselors are responsible for upholding and showcasing in their behavior the moral principles of the Church at all times, even beyond the camp season.

  • What type of experience do I need?

    • No experience is necessary! All our staff will receive in-person training to ensure they are prepared for camp.

    • Never been to Fanari before? No problem! Regardless of whether you attended as a camper, live in a different metropolis, or have never counseled before, we love bringing new people into our program!

  • What type of training needs to be completed by all staff members?

    • All counselors that are hired must attend the MANDATORY staff training from May 31st to June 2nd, 2024 at the St. Iakovos Retreat Center in Kansasville, WI.

    • Counselors will also need to complete online youth safety training with a background check prior to coming to camp.

  • What is the time commitment?

    • Counselors will indicate on their application how many weeks they would like to join us for camp. Counselors can volunteer for one, two, three, or four weeks of camp. Applicants will be allocated to a number of weeks as needed. All weeks of camp will begin on a Sunday afternoon and will go through Saturday afternoon of the following week. Counselors must be in attendance at all times during their assigned week of camp.

  • Will I be paid for my time as a counselor?

    • The chance to be at Fanari Camp is a great opportunity to be with our youth out of the goodness of our love for them and for ultimately Christ. Counselors volunteer their time for Fanari Camp. Full-time five week (5W) counselors, who receive a gratitude stipend, have already been selected for the summer.
